Definately want the dual audio of this. Lately I prefer dubs, and it's a lot easier to watch when you are up @ 3am. (gf prefers as well lol) |

I would love to see Beck encoded by Arigatou. I haven't seen it from any other groups.
I think the easier way, would be to have a dub-only version, and a japanese/subtitle version, separate.

Hehe same here. 3am and me needing glasses means it's really really hard to follow a subbed anime unless I'm glued to my screen in my computer chair. Not all that great.
Combine that with the fact that Japanese often talk real fast. so the subs zip by before my eyes can focus and read them (unless I'm sitting really close).

I've heard the same thing about the edited video, straight from some of the English VAs who worked on the series -- it wasn't Funimation screwing around for the heck of it, it was because of legal issues from all the trademarks and brand names that show up during the series. |
Well, out of curiosity I bought the first DVD (italian edition): the video seems ok to me (but I have no experience in encoding, so I can't tell if it is a "good source") and I spotted one of the brand names you are referring to - samsung.
It would be interesting doing a comparison between the dvd and the fansub, regarding this point.

Finding a R2 for this series wont be exactly easy to do. I do hope to get the first volume of the R1 in a week or so, and see exactly how bad it is. But to do it with both versions i dont think is gonna be possible. So hope that the R1 works.

Do you want me to send a sample of my copy or something before you buy it?
EDIT: Italian DVD are R2, PAL (audio: 5.1 ac3 /2.0 lpcm Italian, 2.0 ac3 Jap)
and I noticed another brand (kenwood) showing up during ep. 2. Maybe this version hasn't been edited?

Three groups started the series, but:
the first used the wrong aspect ratio...
i suspect the second downmixed the audio (they usually do this, sigh)...
and the third notoriously badly sucks.
So, guys, you're our best hope
