I just got a new internet connection. The problem with this is that it seems that high download speeds cause problems with my computer (I'm guessing my old HDD can't keep up with it).
With my old connection I used to top off at about 500kb/s, which never caused any problems. With this new connection though I'm getting speeds over 600kb/s, which has caused a few problems.
I've looked all over, but couldn't find anything to cap my download speed. I'm using MIRC, but would like to know how to go about doing this. I can't believe there isn't an option for this in the program, so I must be over looking something.
Thanks for the help.

You wont find the option in mIRC to cap your download speeds as there isnt one. You will need one that works system wide for all programs that you can customise for your needs. I havnt used any myself though i think netlimiter may work. If anyone else has a suggestion feel free to post.

I'm not too thrilled about having to install separate software for this, but if I have no choice.
One weird side effect I'm noticing with this program though. What ever limit I set for MIRC the cap seems to happen before the number I specified is reached. It won't go withing 50+KB/s of the number I set. Weird.
Anyways, I'd still prefer an IRC program that does the limiting internally. Hopefully there's one out there. If anyone knows of one, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.
Thanks.
